RPI Consultants Knowledge Base

Did you know RQC has a configuration file that controls additional global settings outside of IC01, RQ04, etc.?  It’s true!  The RQC config file has a lot to offer your organization and often times is easily forgotten.

Here’s my top 3 and why they are my favorites:

Item Validation Settings for the Special / Service task

This configuration is a MUST!  Warn should be configured so that Requesters are notified if the item they are attempting to request is associated to an item master, vendor item or manufacturer item.

  • Skip – Default setting; Specials are not checked against the item master. ☹
  • Warn – When a match is found the user sees the message below. Clicking “OK” transfers them to catalog search where they see a list of matching items. They can verify if any of those items are what they meant. If not, they can click the Back button to return to the Special/Service screen and continue to add the item (which will still be on screen).
  • Deny – Users are not allowed to order items as special if a match is found in the Vendor Item Number, Item Number or Manufacturer items in the item catalog. The user receives the warning below when a match is found between their item and the Item Master, Vendor Item or Manufacturer Code. Clicking ‘yes’ takes them to the matches in the item catalog, clicking ‘no’ takes them back to the Special/Service screen so they can then edit the item and correct any mistakes. They will not be able to add the item they entered because of the Deny setting.

Hiding & Requiring Fields

Did you know you can hide and require fields?!  Pretty neat – and super helpful.  Fields like ‘Priority’ and ‘Delivery Date’ often do not do what the Requester thinks they will do and are often told to ignore during processing.  Why not hide them all together and take the confusion out of things?

Unreleased Requisition Notification

Often times Requesters get pulled away from their stations mid-requisition and their default is to close out of the RQC window.  Within the config file there is a setting to warn the requester that they are about to close out and have not yet released their requisition.

So what’s next?  Work with your IT Department and make some changes!  Keep in mind that whenever you make changes to the configuration file you must go to the Utility page and click the “Reload Configuration File” so the application will pick up the changes.
